Marchetto Lab Anthropology Department, UC San Diego

Sarah Fernandes is a PhD student co-mentored by Drs. Carol Marchetto and Rusty Gage. Sarah is as brainy as the organoids she grows, and as organized as the networks she records. She is our MEA maestro, our primate pro and our cell culture champion. She studies organoids derived from Alzheimer’s disease patient cells and looks at their network features and transcriptomic profiles. She is always available for an enthusiastic Radiolab debrief, to think out of the box on a cool scientific concept, and is always a calming, kind presence in the lab. Outside of lab, Sarah can be found growing delicious snacks in her garden, and hanging out with her adorable cat.
